IP Norge is a recently founded intellectual property cluster based in Norway. The cluster was established by 17 founding members with the aim of bringing together Norwegian companies, organizations and individuals who are involved in the management, protection and commercialization of intellectual property rights. IP Norge is designed to provide a platform for collaboration, networking, and knowledge sharing among the members and everybody interested in improving the field of intellectual property in Norway. In slight contrast to national IP associations comprised of intellectual property individuals, members in IP Norge are companies and organizations with IP as one of their core activities. The reasoning behind this is, amongst others, that a corporate member status will likely increase the probability of spreading the IP message nationally and internationally and assist in attracting new cluster members which have historically not associated themselves with the business of IP.
On April 24, 2023 the General Assembly of IP Norge met to discuss the future direction of the cluster clearly confirming the commitment of a widely unified, Norwegian IP-ecosystem. Furthermore, the cluster has recently received the green light for an initial funding round opening the door for a variety of activities including, but not limited to, an initial mapping of IP-needs of the Norwegian industry, an initial screening of tools and services to meet this demand as well as various activities to build the cluster itself attracting new members.
The establishment of IP Norge is a significant milestone for the Norwegian intellectual property landscape. The cluster is composed of various stakeholders in the field of intellectual property, including patent attorneys, trademark attorneys, IP consultants, law firms and IP institutions. By bringing together these diverse groups, IP Norge is creating a dynamic and innovative community that is focused on advancing the practice and understanding of intellectual property in Norway. The cluster plans to diversify its member offering to other important parts of the IP infrastructure in Norway including, but not limited, industry organizations, TTOs and other public organizations as well as NGOs.
One of the primary objectives of IP Norge is further to promote the importance of intellectual property rights in industry in Norway. The cluster aims to raise awareness of the value of intellectual property and its role in driving innovation, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth. By educating the public, policymakers, and business leaders about the importance of intellectual property, IP Norge hopes to contribute to an improved culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Norway.
Another key objective of IP Norge is to provide a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among its members. The cluster plans to organize regular events, seminars, and workshops that bring together experts and practitioners from different fields of intellectual property. These events provide opportunities for members to share their experiences, discuss best practices, and learn about the latest trends and developments in intellectual property.
IP Norge also plans to offer various services to its members, partners and the Norwegian industry as a whole, including access to legal and technical experts, IP-education of new talents as well as a range of intellectual property-related tools and resources. Members and partners will also be able to benefit from training and mentoring programs that are designed to help them develop their intellectual property skills and knowledge.
