SILICON VALLEY, September 28, 2022: Morgan Lewis is expanding its nationally recognized intellectual property capabilities with the arrival of a five-member multi-office, technology-focused patent prosecution team led by Manita Rawat, who joins as a partner resident in Silicon Valley. A registered patent attorney with a technical background, she previously served as managing partner of Duane Morris’s Silicon Valley office and a member of the Duane Morris governing partners’ board.
“Global patent filings and other key indicators confirm what we have long known, which is that global innovation is increasing at a rapid and unyielding pace,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “For companies of any size in any sector, the skillful guidance of a patent prosecution team of this caliber is integral to organizations protecting novel intellectual property in this competitive landscape.”
The full team includes of counsel Daniel Tarr, associate Tarian “Terry” Wang, Ph.D., patent prosecution specialist Mona Batmani, and senior paralegal Sherlin Yaghoubzadeh, resident in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago, and Los Angeles, respectively. They focus on patent procurement and prosecution, enforcement and licensing, and patent litigation in diverse technical areas.
Manita’s technical background is in applied mathematics with a concentration in computer science, aerospace engineering, and statistical analysis. She represents Fortune 100 and large technology companies, many who are creating cutting-edge technology—from ground-breaking software, including online platforms, mobile applications, artificial intelligence, and machine learning models—to consumer electronics and medical devices. Manita counsels on patent prosecution, licensing, and infringement, and supports IP issues in corporate transaction due diligence and patent litigation. In addition to her practice, she is deeply committed to mentoring women and diverse lawyers, a dedication shared by Morgan Lewis and demonstrated through the firm’s ML Women in Tech initiative, among other firmwide mentoring and networking programs.
“The informed counsel of our nationwide patent prosecution lawyers is critical for businesses looking to secure their intellectual property through patent portfolios in today’s constantly evolving technology marketplace,” said Louis Beardell, leader of the firm’s IP practice. “The team’s arrival extends the capabilities of our 200-plus team of global intellectual property lawyers, many with advanced degrees in science, engineering, and mathematics.”
