Loeb & Loeb is pleased to announce the arrival of Brent Babcock as a partner in its Patent Litigation & Counseling department and as the chair of the firm’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Trials practice group. Brent brings nearly three decades of patent litigation experience to Loeb & Loeb, having represented high-technology clients in all aspects of intellectual property (IP) disputes. Brent has extensive experience in PTAB trials and other post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He also has significant experience in federal district court litigation, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit appeals and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

“Brent is a veteran in his field and is consistently ranked as one of the top intellectual property lawyers in California,” said Mark Waddell, chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Patent Litigation & Counseling department. “His extensive experience, skill and familiarity with the PTAB will make him a strong asset to our clients across multiple industries.”

Brent represents a wide range of clients in technology industries, including molecular biology, genetics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, semiconductor processing, metrology, cellular communications, electronic gaming, computer processing, prosthetics technology and the automotive aftermarket. In addition, his practice includes prelitigation, pre-interference and post-grant consultations, as well as appellate briefings and oral arguments before the Federal Circuit.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brent as we continue to expand our patent litigation and counseling depth on the West Coast,” said Alyse Pelavin, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “His excellent litigation track record, international network and deep understanding of IP disputes make him a stellar addition to the firm.”

“I am very impressed by Loeb & Loeb’s technical bench strength, emphasis on top-quality work and top-to-bottom firm collegiality,” said Babcock. “These qualities are an important component of my practice, and I am eager to become a member of such a talented team.”

Brent joins Loeb & Loeb from Womble Bond Dickinson, where he was chair of its PTAB Trials practice group. Previously, he was a partner at Knobbe Martens Olsen & Bear, where he founded and chaired the USPTO Trials & Post-Grant Proceedings practice group. Brent earned a B.S. and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, an MBA from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
