ben husbandCarpmaels & Ransford is pleased to announce the promotion of Ben Husband and Simon Llewellyn to the partnership, effective from 1st July 2022.

Ben joined Carpmaels & Ransford in 2013 having started his career at another UK IP firm. Being a key part of the growth of both the Engineering and Tech teams, he has built a considerable practice in the MedTech field, in particular with software-related medical devices. Ben is passionate about developing the next generation of patent attorneys and is heavily involved with the ongoing recruitment into the Engineering and Tech teams at Carpmaels & Ransford.

Simon is a solicitor in the Dispute Resolution team and joined the firm in 2018, having started his career at another London-based firm specialising in patent litigation. Simon’s practice is focused on multi-jurisdictional patent litigation across all industry sectors, but particularly on the various aspects of the healthcare industry, including on small molecule, simon llewellynantibody, and non-biological complex drugs, and on medical devices. Simon has been involved in high-profile cases before the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court concerning both patents and SPCs. Much of his work involves cross-border litigation and he has extensive experience assisting as co-counsel in litigation taking place across Europe (earning the plaudit that he “manages pan-European pharma disputes on a Champions League level” in a recent directory review) as well as elsewhere, including the US and Asia.

Simon is also a regular volunteer with the Holborn Community Association After School STEM Club, which helps children in Holborn to apply their scientific understanding practically through STEM activities.

Hugh Goodfellow, Managing Partner at Carpmaels & Ransford, comments:

“Ben and Simon have built very impressive practices since joining the firm and we are really pleased to welcome them into the partnership. Their promotions demonstrate the breadth of our healthcare capability and expand our ability to advise clients across the full spectrum of IP services, from obtaining patent protection through to litigation before the courts.

“The continued growth of our Dispute Resolution team, which now includes five partners, is just one sign of the increasing demand from clients for our full-service offering, and also timely as the UPC finally becomes visible over the horizon.”

Carpmaels & Ransford is recognised as a leader in the healthcare field and was recently awarded SPC Litigation Firm of the Year at the LMG Life Sciences Awards EMEA, and won the UK’s Patent Contentious award (Patent & Trademark Attorney Firms) at Managing IP’s awards for 2022.
