BDB Pitmans have advised leading data analytics company, Eclipse Analytics Limited (Eclipse), on the protection of its intellectual property rights in a deal with a global horse racing operation. Eclipse provides data analytics for bloodstock and horse racing.
Based in Newmarket, the epicentre of Britain’s horse racing industry, Eclipse focuses on providing solutions for large scale breeding and racing operations, carrying out data projects designed to assist clients with commercial and homegrown breeding interests, including bespoke research projects designed to support investment in breeding stock. Eclipse provides data analysis solutions designed to drive insights which assist in the accurate analysis and reporting on horses, auctions and pedigree ratings.
BDB Pitmans’ team was led by commercial and IP partner Dennis Lee with additional support from Ludovico Lugnani. The team advised Eclipse on the protection of its IP rights relating to its technology and analytics services, as well as the licensing of its materials.
With offices in three of the UK’s leading tech hubs, the firm’s dedicated team provides specialist expertise to a range of companies and individuals across the retail, manufacturing, technology, creative, IT, and entertainment sectors.
Partner Dennis Lee commented: ‘Over the years the UK horse racing industry has grown in popularity and is now bringing billions into the economy, partially as a result of an increase in high net worth investors participating in the horse and bloodstock communities. As racing is very much a results-based business, it was a pleasure to work with Eclipse, a company that works hard to bring an extra layer of insight to the sport through the introduction of data and analytics.’
Michael Roy, CEO at Eclipse Analytics Limited, commented: ‘BDB Pitmans have helped our business in many different ways. They are always conscientious, professional, and responsive in dealing with, what are often, last-minute requests.’
