Womble Bond Dickinson today announced that Allison L Ko has joined the firm’s Greenville, South Carolina, office as a partner in the Patent Prosecution and Litigation group. She has extensive experience managing global patent and trademark portfolios, including drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent and trademark applications, preparing infringement opinions and validity analysis of patents, negotiating and drafting license agreements, and providing patent-related opinions of counsel.

Ko’s clients range from startup ventures to Fortune 100 companies, with a focus on those operating in the biomedical, biomechanical, and chemical sectors. She joins Womble from the Greenville office of a full-service IP firm, where she led their Chemical and Life Sciences group.

“We are thrilled to have Allison join us in Greenville. She is a key addition as we continue to bridge between our deep IP benches in North Carolina and Georgia. Allison strengthens our capabilities in South Carolina and bolsters our nationwide chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech patent practice,” said Preston Heard, Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practice Group Leader. “And very importantly, she is a proven leader who shares our core values – integrity, devotion to client service, and respect for the individual.”

Before attending Wake Forest University School of Law, Ko received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University. This background inspired her technical focus on medical devices, wearables, surgical and infection prevention products, drug delivery systems, pharmaceuticals, and regenerative medicine.

Ko is the 14th attorney to join the firm’s Patent Prosecution and Litigation group in as many months. Notable expansion during that time includes the addition of a complex patent team led by partner Lisa Moyles and a life science-focused group of attorneys and technical advisors led by partner Stephanie Seidman.
