October 7, 2024, Reston, VA — Veteran intellectual property lawyer John Mills is pleased to announce the launch of Mills IP Law, PLLC, a boutique law firm that will provide sophisticated services in strategic patent counseling, including the development of patent portfolios, freedom-to-operate analysis, and patent diligence in connection with corporate transactions.
John Mills brings nearly 20 years of experience in patent prosecution and counseling. He and his team have drafted and procured patents in a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, drug delivery devices, consumer goods, and diagnostic devices. His diverse array of clients ranges from pre-seed startups to large, publicly traded companies. Mills’s practice is influenced by his 11-year career as an engineer, where he experienced patent law from the client’s perspective as a co-inventor on several issued patents.
Prior to launching Mills IP Law, John Mills founded and led the IP practices at two Virginia-based law firms. He began his legal career at an Am Law top 50 firm, where he practiced for ten years.
“In launching Mills IP Law, our aim is to provide clients with a boutique law firm that is focused solely on patent law, whether it’s patent counseling, patent portfolio development, or procuring top-notch patents for our clients,” Mills said. “Our team has considerable experience – as attorneys and in industry, so we know first-hand the complexities that are involved in product development as well as the patent application process. I am excited about this next phase of my career and look forward to continuing to work with our clients in navigating the patent process to safeguard their inventions.”
Mills holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a J.D. from the College of William and Mary School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and before the USPTO.
