Patent attorneys LeRoy Ashley III and Jonathan Staudt join Cantor Colburn’s electrical engineering practice group

January 14, 2026 – Cantor Colburn LLP proudly announces the addition of two associates, patent attorneys LeRoy Ashley III and Jonathan D. Staudt, further strengthening the firm’s ability to serve clients in industries that involve innovations in electrical and mechanical engineering. Ashley and Staudt are electrical engineers and experienced in patent prosecution and intellectual property strategy across diverse, cutting-edge technologies.

Ashley’s practice spans a wide range of technologies, including automotive systems, such as EV, internal-combustion, and hybrid propulsion systems, as well as thermal management and HVAC components. He also has significant experience with medical devices involving both mechanical systems and the application of neural networks for diagnostics and design. In addition, his work includes production and manufacturing technologies, additive manufacturing, consumer electronics, wireless communication systems, industrial machinery, electric-grid technologies, and aerospace and aeronautics components and systems.

Ashley began his career at General Motors as a Controls Engineer, where he gained hands-on experience designing and implementing OEM software standards for the launch of new powertrain models, as well as troubleshooting dynamic incidents on the plant floor to maintain continuous production. When critical production needs arose, he worked on-site with diagnostic equipment to quickly assess system performance, develop an action plan, and guide skilled trades personnel in implementing effective technical solutions. He is admitted to practice in Michigan.

Staudt’s patent prosecution practice includes a broad range of technological fields, including artificial intelligence, software, communication networks, robotic systems, electromagnetics, chemical processes, aerospace and maritime systems, and civil technologies. For example, his work includes satellite systems, transactional devices, medical devices, semi-autonomous AI systems, experimental propulsion systems, firearm devices, warehouse management systems, and power generation systems. Staudt uses his experience to help clients strategize, protect, prosecute, seek, and maintain their intellectual property portfolios. He is admitted in Florida.
