Panasonic Automotive Systems (PAS) is a leading global provider of advanced technologies, such as infotainment systems, to automakers around the globe. PAS has joined the Open Invention Network (OIN), the largest patent non-aggression community in history, with over 4,000 members globally. OIN members jointly grant royalty-free patent cross-licenses for technologies related to the key building-block technologies, ensuring they do not assert patent rights over core Linux and related open-source software (OSS) code and projects.

PAS continually contributes to key OSS communities, including Automotive Grade Linux, and has led the standardization of technologies like VirtIO, a critical virtualization tool for Software Defined Vehicles (SDV).

“Advanced automotive technology and connectivity are propelling ongoing innovation within the automotive industry. These innovations make the automobiles more integrated, safe, and secure. Open source is a key driver of these capabilities,” said Keith Bergelt, CEO of OIN. “As a global leader in advanced automotive technology, we are pleased that Panasonic Automotive Systems is committed to patent non-aggression in core Linux and adjacent open source technologies.”

By joining OIN, PAS is reinforcing its commitment to the robust growth of Linux and other OSS technologies. This move strengthens its community contributions and accelerates the use of OSS in developing advanced in-vehicle software for the SDV era.
