Mewburn Ellis Patent Attorney becomes Women in IP Committee Lead for IP Inclusive

Lucy Coe, Senior Associate at IP firm Mewburn Ellis takes leading role in committee for championing Women in the IP industry

LONDON: Mewburn Ellis is proud to share that Lucy Coe has been made Committee Lead for IP Inclusive’s Women in IP Group.

The mission statement for the Women in IP Community is to tackle issues that people face as women within the IP profession. It provides support and networking, not only for those already working within the UK’s IP professions but also to encourage the next generation to join the sector and climb through its ranks.

Lucy will work closely with Lead Executive Officer of IP Inclusive, Andrea Brewster OBE, and the Women in IP committee in promoting initiatives by guiding firms to improve their own equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). In 2021, this included the creation of a “Quick Wins” toolkit to help organizations make positive difference.

Lucy joined Mewburn Ellis in 2016, qualifying as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2019 and a European Patent Attorney in 2021. She works primarily in the computer software, physics, and electrical engineering sectors, and is particularly experienced in handling both offensive and defensive EPO oppositions and appeals, providing Freedom-To-Operate opinions, and advising on proceedings before the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, the UKIPO, and the EPO.

This appointment comes alongside the recognition of Lucy as a World IP Review Diversity 2023 Trailblazer, a recognition for outstanding people with a decade or less experience in the IP industry who stood out due to their impressive practice in IP and their determination to promote inclusion and diversity within the sector. Fran Salisbury, Mewburn Ellis Women’s Champion, was also recognized as a World IP Review Diversity 2023 Shining Light.
