LONDON – European intellectual property firm Mewburn Ellis today welcomes top-flight patent litigator Camilla Balleny in a significant boost to its litigation offering.
Balleny brings two decades of experience as a litigator to bear in her work advising life sciences companies on complex disputes. As the firm’s first Head of Patent Litigation, she will be part of the wider Legal Practice Group. Her focus will be on the development of the firm’s patent litigation practice, with her particular focus being on servicing the firm’s life sciences and healthcare clients.
Balleny has represented clients across the sector for many years and in different courts in relation to both patents and SPCs. Her specialist advice ranges from pre-litigation strategic planning to the implementation of multi-jurisdictional enforcement and defense projects, often covering multiple patents. With her technical background and years of experience, she has a deep understanding of the importance of such matters and has a reputation for delivering pragmatic and client-centered advice.
Balleny will work closely with the top-ranked teams at Mewburn Ellis to enhance the litigation offering to clients.
Richard Clegg, Managing Partner, said: “Camilla’s arrival represents a hugely exciting step for our international litigation offering and for the firm as a whole. Litigation continues to be a growth area for us, and Camilla is superbly well-placed to take it forward. She has an outstanding reputation as a litigator in large, complex matters, leveraging her scientific training to assist a broad range of life sciences clients.
“I have no doubt she will help us to build an exceptional litigation service for our clients.”
Balleny said: “I am greatly looking forward to working with my new colleagues to develop a market-leading litigation practice that meets the needs of our clients, whatever their requirements. Mewburn Ellis has an excellent reputation in the life sciences sector and beyond as a firm focused on growth and development while being committed to culture, people, and doing the right thing.
“As the life sciences sector in Europe continues to evolve and face new challenges, we will be building out our litigation offering to ensure that clients are equipped with a best-in-class service at all stages of their growth cycle.”
Mewburn Ellis announced the promotion of two new partners, including one equity partner, in February.
