Sudath is the founder and Managing Partner of Sudath Perera Associates. He established the firm in 2002 and deems it as his greatest professional achievement. Sudath was called to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1991 and draws from over 30 years of legal experience and is proficient in many areas of the law which makes him well equipped to handle almost any legal issue.

Sudath is a member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, International Bar Association, Asian Patent Attorneys Association, International Trademark Association (INTA) and International Association of Outsourcing Professionals. He served on the INTA ACC South Asia Subcommittee for three years until 2020 and is currently a member of the INTA Unfair Competition Committee. He was amongst the three honorees felicitated (on nomination from Sri Lanka Customs) by the World Customs Organization in marking World Customs Day 2023, in recognition of the firm’s exceptional contributions towards raising awareness on IP rights and in combating trade of counterfeit goods in and to Sri Lanka through customs enforcements.

The Intellectual Property law team headed by senior partner, Himani Perera, having over 20 years’ experience in advising clients on a range of IP matters including enforcement and commercializing of patents, trademarks, copyright, designs, domain names, know-how and trade secrets, as well as on licensing and franchise arrangements. Himani is a member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), International Trademark Association (INTA) and the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Sri Lanka.

Chathurika Rupasinghe heading the Trademarks division, manages large trademark portfolios for both local and international brand owners and is well experienced in handling complex trademark oppositions. Rajni Weeraarachchi, senior associate of the firm primarily focuses on patent prosecution locally and internationally and has had significant exposure in prosecuting international patent applications filed through the World Intellectual Property Organization.  The firm has one of the most well-established Brand Protection, Anti-Counterfeit and Anti-piracy practices in Sri Lanka with a dedicated unit comprising of efficient, fast- acting and experienced members handling IP enforcement for brand owners. On behalf of brand owners, the firm regularly carries out IPR training and capacity building programs for law enforcement and other regulatory authorities. Nathaya Nanayakkara, a senior associate of the firm is attached to the brand protection team and works closely with the firm’s litigation team in this regard.
