Carpmaels & Ransford welcomes Partner, Andrew Hutchinson, formerly of Simmons & Simmons, to the London office today.
The expansion of the Carpmaels & Ransford Litigation team comes in response to growing client demand for the firm’s litigation services, and in relation to its expertise in the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Carpmaels & Ransford is currently one of the only firms that can use an integrated team to handle parallel disputes in the EPO and UPC and has more than 90 qualified UPC representatives and 20 litigators with experience in national and UPC litigation.
Hutchinson, an established patent litigator, has worked alongside the Carpmaels & Ransford team on several cases, including a recent UPC action. He has significant expertise in the healthcare sector, working with innovator clients in the Pharma and Biotech areas such as Bayer and Eli Lilly.
Speaking about the move, Hutchinson said: “I have watched the impressive growth of the Carpmaels & Ransford team over the last few years, and I’m excited to be part of the next important phase of the team’s development.”
Managing Partner Hugh Goodfellow comments: “As a firm, we have worked collaboratively with Andrew on high-profile cases for many years, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, and it is great to welcome him into the firm.
The further development of the Carpmaels & Ransford Litigation team is testament to the trust our clients place in us to handle some of their most commercially sensitive matters. This was recently recognized at the MIP EMEA Awards 2025, where Carpmaels & Ransford took two European Impact Case of the Year awards in addition to being shortlisted for UPC Firm of the Year and Patent Disputes (Patent & Trademark attorney firms) Firm of the Year. The firm was also recognized as Patent Litigation Firm of the Year: Biologics & Biosimilars and SPC Litigation Firm of the Year at the LMG Life Sciences Awards 2025.
