MADRID, Thursday 30 May 2024 – The Spanish intellectual property (IP) firm ABG Intellectual Property has appointed 10 new partners, adding to the six partners it already had to date. This action involves the internal promotion of professionals who work in different areas in the Madrid, Barcelona, and Bilbao offices and who, as of today, become equity partners of the company.
“These promotions are the result of our commitment to developing the best talent. Our new partners’ professional careers have evolved under the firm’s acronym and their contribution and dedication have been essential to helping ABG IP reach the privileged position that it currently holds in the area of protection of IP. These appointments therefore recognize their performance and also assure us that our company’s vision and values, as well as its commitment to excellence, are upheld in the future,” stated Juan Arias, Managing Partner and Founder of ABG IP.
These new appointments thus mark the beginning of the generational transition in society. To date, the average age of ABG IP partners was 58 years old; however, the new appointments now lower that average to 48 years old.
Two partners in the management area and more than 40% women
Some noteworthy profiles of our promoted professionals include seven European Patent Attorneys (qualified to act before the European Patent Office) in different areas of science and technology: María Corral, Tomás Llamas, Iain McGeoch, Marta Rodríguez, Sofia Pettersson, André Santos, and Laura de la Vega. The Head of the Legal Department (Laura Montoya), the Head of the Financial Department (Beatriz Ibáñez), and the Head of the Human Resources Department (David Cortes) have also been named partners.
“There is no doubt that having the best professionals in technical areas gives us a competitive advantage in the core of our activity, which relates to the protection of intangible assets. This also holds true for our legal department, which is a key strategic area for growth. Nevertheless, we believe that in order to achieve and maintain our position, it is also critical to have a strong management team that oversees daily operations and guarantees the profitability of our business. It is for this reason that the Head of the Human Resources Department and the Head of the Financial Department are also ABG IP partners,” said Arias.
Following the appointments, the firm’s partnership structure is now composed of 43.75% women (nine male partners and seven female partners), which places the company at the forefront in terms of gender equality.
