London – Lewis Silkin today announces that Scott Foster has joined the firm as a partner in its IP360 team.
A highly regarded IP litigator with dual UK and Canadian qualifications, Foster brings a wealth of experience in contentious intellectual property matters, particularly high-value patent disputes.
He began his legal career in London before relocating to Canada, where he founded boutique IP litigation firm Seastone IP LLP.
Foster has acted as lead counsel in complex IP trials and appeals across the full spectrum of IP rights – including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, and copyright.
He has been involved in a number of high-profile and notable IP cases, including major patent trials involving medical devices and agricultural technologies. Foster acted on the first case in Canada to recognise copyright in jewellery, as well as for the Government of India in the long-running geographical indication dispute over Basmati, and has secured multiple injunctions and Anton Piller orders in IP theft and counterfeiting cases
Recognized in leading legal directories including Best Lawyers, IAM Patent 1000, and Managing IP – IP Stars, Foster’s clients include large multi-nationals and SMEs, as well as banks, governments, celebrities, and more.
Tom Gaunt, Partner and Head of Intellectual Property at Lewis Silkin, commented: “It’s a real pleasure to welcome Scott to Lewis Silkin. Deepening our strength and expertise in contentious IP and, in particular, patent disputes, has been a key part of the long-term roadmap for our IP360 offering. Bringing together Trade Mark Attorneys, Patent Attorneys, and specialist IP lawyers like Scott under one roof means we can offer clients a blend of specialist depth and tech-enabled delivery, seamlessly integrated with a full service legal offering that very few firms can match.
“Patents are deeply embedded in the commercial strategy of the innovative and technologically advanced businesses we serve, with disputes being a material risk requiring the very best advice. Scott brings outstanding experience advising on complex, high-value patent litigation alongside his broader contentious IP practice, and we’re very much looking forward to working with him as we continue to realise our vision for IP360.”
Foster, Partner at Lewis Silkin, commented: “Lewis Silkin has a highly-regarded IP practice, and I’m excited to leverage the platform the firm provides to continue to grow my patent litigation practice. Led by Tom, the IP team has been on an upward trajectory in recent years with both acquisitions and team growth. Combined with the firm’s progressive culture, which has been self-evident from day one, Lewis Silkin offers the perfect match for my ambitions, and I can’t wait to get started.”
