Jennie Cox and Stephen Michell were promoted to Counsel as of October 1, 2024

Carpmaels & Ransford is pleased to announce two new Counsel promotions effective from October 1, 2024.

Jennie Cox handles a broad range of subject matter, including industrial and consumer chemistry, materials, and mechanical inventions. She has particular expertise in semiconductor materials and semiconductor device fabrication, personal healthcare products, laundry technology, contact lenses, catalysts, and medical devices. Cox is highly experienced in prosecuting patent applications at the EPO and managing worldwide prosecution of patent families. A key focus of Cox’s practice is to work closely with clients to develop IP strategies to suit their specific commercial objectives.

Stephen Michell is a biotechnology specialist with a robust understanding of the role of IP in the growth of a biotechnology company and over 15 years of experience handling patent prosecution, EPO oppositions, and appeals. Recently, he has also been heavily involved in the first revocation action at the UPC’s central division. Michell has a particular focus on antibody therapeutics, vaccines, cell-culture-based manufacturing, and tissue repair. He works closely with his clients to protect or free up areas of commercial value within the context of often complex European and global patent portfolios.

Hugh Goodfellow, Managing Partner at Carpmaels & Ransford and a Partner in the Life Sciences group himself, comments: “It’s been a great year of growth for our strong Life Sciences team. Jennie and Stephen are long-serving and experienced patent attorneys at the firm, and it’s great to see them stepping into these new roles.”

Cox trained at the firm and became a senior associate in 2010. Michell joined the firm after qualification and became a senior associate in 2016. Their recent promotions follow this year’s senior associate and partner promotions to the Life Sciences team.
