Mewburn Ellis is first UK IP firm to join UN Global Compact

Leading European Intellectual Property firm joins UN Global Compact Initiative for development of responsible business practices

LONDON – Intellectual property firm Mewburn Ellis today announces that it has joined the UN Global Compact initiative – a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 3,800 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries and more than 69 Local Networks. The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with 10 universally accepted principles and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs focus on areas where businesses have a large effect on outcomes: human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.

Mewburn Ellis is the first IP firm with offices in the UK to join the initiative and is proud to join thousands of other companies globally committed to taking responsible business action to create the world we all want.

This announcement follows Mewburn Ellis’ EcoVadis award in September for its achievements in sustainability. EcoVadis, the world’s largest provider of business sustainability ratings, awarded the firm a prestigious silver medal, putting it in the 83rd percentile of all businesses assessed. Mewburn Ellis has also had its Science-Based Targets approved by the SBTi and submitted to CDP, making it one of the most advanced IP firms in the world in the sustainability space.

Mewburn Ellis’ track record on sustainability is impressive and it is also a testament to its ambition to do the right thing and lead the way in its field. Combining a commitment of resources to acquire depth of knowledge with engagement at all levels has allowed the firm to rapidly mature its approach. As part of its commitment to the UN Global Compact, Mewburn Ellis will (continue to) place sustainability at the heart of the business, informing the decision they make and driving forward its ambitious agenda.

As part of its ESG commitment, Mewburn Ellis also donates to a number of charities each year and announced in the autumn that its donations to charity since 2020 have totaled in excess of £1m.
