15 April 2024 — Herbert Smith Freehills today announced the promotion of 27 new partners globally – another strong promotion round for the firm.
Many of the new partners focus on areas that are aligned with the firm’s vision and which the firm has prioritized under its Ambition strategy – private capital, energy transition, and ESG. The appointments reflect the firm’s ongoing commitment to invest in its international network, its leading practices, and its sector expertise to deliver growth and success.
The new partners are based across the firm’s global network of offices in Asia, Australia, EMEA, the UK, and the US.
CEO Justin D’Agostino said: “We are incredibly pleased to recognize the breadth of talent we have in our leading practices across the network. Our new partners have the skills, expertise, and outlook to ensure we continue to drive our Ambition strategy and our growth areas of private capital, energy transition, and ESG. They are integral to the future leadership and success of the firm.”
Chair and Senior Partner Rebecca Maslen-Stannage added: “Providing opportunities for our talented team members to progress is a key priority for our firm. Spanning across all regions where we have a presence, these appointments reflect the confidence we have in our global business and our commitment to investing in our people and empowering them to reach their full potential. We are delighted to welcome our new partners and congratulate them on this significant milestone.”
The promotions take effect on 1 May 2024.
Among these promotions, IP and life sciences lawyer Emily Bottle has been promoted.
Bottle is an intellectual property specialist with nearly a decade of experience handling patent litigation in the life sciences sector. She specializes in advising major global life sciences companies on technically complex and business-critical disputes, often involving large patent portfolios. She has advised on products in a broad range of fields within life sciences, including genetic diagnostics, DNA sequencing, small molecules, and monoclonal antibody-based therapies.
As well as litigating in the UK Patents Court and Court of Appeal, Bottle provides strategic advice on pan-European and global patent litigation. Often these cases involve proceedings before the European Patent Office and challenging regulatory and competition issues. She has attended and advised on significant patent trials in the US and on litigation experiments.
Alongside her practice, Bottle is active in the legal and IP community. She coordinates the pro bono work of Herbert Smith Freehills’ IP team in London, sits on the ChIPs London leadership team, and speaks regularly to students interested in STEM careers and about the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the IP sector.
Bottle splits her time between HSF’s London and Milan offices. This international experience and her dual qualifications in law and biological sciences mean she is readily able to grasp highly technical material and the international dimensions of multijurisdictional disputes, including in the new Unified Patent Court.
