US Research and Development firm InterDigital has gone to the High Court in the UK to begin patent infringement proceedings against Chinese technology giant Lenovo.
The action concerns a number of 3G and 4G patents. InterDigital, which owns over thirty-thousand mobile technology patents and has successfully licensed technology to firms such as LG, Sony and Apple, alleges that Lenovo infringed a number of InterDigital’s European patents.
InterDigital’s move into litigation follows years of negotiations with Lenovo.
InterDigial CEO, William J. Merritt, said: “For our company, we turn to litigation only when we feel that negotiations are not being carried out in good faith”. He added: “In bringing this claim in the UK High Court of Justice, which has a history of examining standards-essential patent issues, we are hopeful for a speedy resolution and a fair license”.
