Social media giants Facebook and Instagram are accused of infringing several GPS technologies related patents belonging to Corrino Holdings.
Facebook stands accused of infringing four US patents, and Instagram, a subsidiary of the company, was accused of infringing five. The patents relate to technology which alerts users of nearby services and allows them to search for them within the area.

Patents allegedly infringed include ‘398 and ‘331, and they state: “The system locates and transmits information to location-specific users.”
Corrino state that Facebook offers apps for mobile phones and other devices that use their technology and that Instagram’s mobile app provides users with technology that infringes the patents.

The Texas-based company also filed a lawsuit against the parent company of Snapchat and mobile app Foursquare, stating many of the same grievances as this case. Corrino is requesting damages in all of the lawsuits.
