The US International Trade Commission (ITC) is investigating Arris over alleged patent infringement on US cable MSO boxes and DirecTV’s Genie users. Two Sony subsidiaries (Sony Corp, from Tokyo and Sony Electronics, based in San Diego) made the allegations, and maintain that Arris has infringed on its patents with imported products for cable and satellite reception.

Arris International PLC and its subsidiaries were named as respondents in the case. The complaint was filed in March, and as well as the complaint with the ITC the filing was also made at the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division.

The complaint before the Atlanta court demands a trial by jury and as well as detailing the specific patent allegations also argues that the Defendants “directly or indirectly” infringed the Sony patents.
