Amazon has filed a patent application with the USPTO for a technology that could use visual cues – like your eyes and face – to ascertain your job and potentially track you as you move around.

The patent application was filed in August 2017 and made public on Thursday. The technology could take samples from a database match the facial features to other records. it “[evaluates] the clothing that the individual is wearing, [identifies] the individual as Allen Brewer and then [determines] that Allen Brewer is an accountant,” according to the patent filing.

The filing says the technology could make use of metadata to add even more details to what it knows about the individual – such as detect uniforms that connect an individual to a particular group, like sports jerseys or hats. The idea is that this filing could be added to Amazon’s Rekognition, which is used to preventing package theft.
